RAF Donna Nook and Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust Lincolnshire Wildlife Trusts’ Donna Nook National Nature Reserve covers more than 6.25 miles of coastline between Grainthorpe Haven and Saltfleet. The Lincolnshire Wildlife Trusts’ Donna Nook National Nature Reserve is run by volunteers and are always on hand to help and answer questions. |
Grey Seals at Donna Nook In November and December each year, Grey Seals swim in from the sea where there spend most of their life. The Grey Seals give birth to their young on the beach on the edge of the sand dunes. Over 1.300 pups are born each year. Because of the the thousands of visitors that come to see the Grey Seals, a special viewing area has been made. |
The viewing area gives visitors a close view of the Grey Seal colony. It also keeps both the Grey Seals and the visitors safe! The Grey Seals bite! The Grey Seal mothers are understandably protective. The Bulls can be very aggressive and move surprisingly fast. Ministry of Defence uses part of the area as a bombing target range. No one should enter the bombing area when red flags are flying. |
To see the Grey Seals go to the Stonebridge car park accessed from North Somercotes along narrow lanes. North Somercotes can be found going north on the A1031 coast road . Donna Nook National Nature Reserve is about 13 miles from Mablethorpe. There is a small car park at Stonebridge an an overflow parking area nearby. >>> further information from the Lincs Trust |
