25th November – A journey through
the joys of our coastline – North to South
Venues
1. Donna Nook - seals giving birth
in natural surroundings and indulging in beach colony life –
personal visits NOT recommended due to visitor numbers which last
year got up to 3 to 4 thousand a day – VERY difficult to park,
next to impossible to get to the fenceline to watch seals –
not recommended as an environment for children
2.
The seal sanctuary – will
be open all 3 days AND free admission/parking – remote video
access to birthing grounds offered in their education suite from2pm
to 5pm daily – and tours of all the other exhibits –
see seals VERY close up - lots of other birds and animals too –
café for meals & drinks – our planet through the
ages
3. The Loewen Cinema – remote
video access to the seal birthing grounds in luxury cinema surroundings
daily from 9am to 1pm
4. The Atrium at Holivans Caravan Park
is open to visitors to hear from John Clarkson of the Lincs Bird
Club with talks and slides and films
5. Why not visit our new “Bathing
Beauties” beach huts – see examples and displays
of “What’s in a rock pool anyhow” – “How
much life is there in a bucket or two of sand” – “What
is seaweed” – “How many different types of shells
are there – and from what marine creatures” Talk to
wildlife artists who will have exhibitions of their work in the
huts – see what coastal erosion REALLY means in “Jabba
the hut”
6. See the RNLI tower – Join
in with Natural England on a “Beach Fest” – see
what you can collect and study from the shoreline – why not
see the lifeboats whilst you are there – want to see the night
sky in all its glory – skywatch will be operating from here
too
7.
Queens Park – see flocks of
Canada Geese on the lake, – also mallards and other geese
and ducks live there – childrens playground - cafe
8. Call in at the Library to get
full details of the programme and the weeks events – talk
to John Gregory and leave your photography competition entry on
the computer for judging at the weekend – top 12 to be featured
in a calendar for next year to raise funds for the RSPB –
full frontal WI ladies beware !!
9. Walk round to The new Library where
experts from ELDC conservation and recycling schemes will show you
how to protect and preserve the planet on which we live. Collect
your free light bulbs and learn how to cut your household bills
AND be kind to the environment
