Emmerdale’s Rodney lit up Mablethorpe on July 31, 2010. Rodney, played by Patrick Mower, has been involved in a number of crucial story lines in the ITV soap since he joined in October 2000. “The local peoplewere delighted to meet Rodney on this very special day,” said Mayor of Mablethorpe, Councillor Paddy Prince. “It was a real highlight in Mablethorpe’s events programme this year.” Between 12noon and 5pm, Mablethorpe was alive with activities taking place along the foreshore. Activities included skateboard and dance demonstrations, beach cricket, Punch and Judy, a sandcastle competition, 'Have A Go Circus', and much more. The event made use of the resort’s natural open spaces. |
The evening programme, compered by the team from Haven, kicked off at 6pm at the High Street Pullover. Dan Churchley from Haven entertained the crowds along with performances from local bands 'The Midnight Ramblers’ and ‘Towering Heights’. At 8.40pm the procession, led by Rodney, left Stanley Avenue and made its way to the Pullover where he flicked the switch to light up the town at 9.30pm. Councillor Prince, continued: “This year’s event was developed through the Events Partnership with support from the Town and District Councils plus numerous other organisations from the area.
