History of Maltby le Marsh

This website to shows a little of what the village was like in the past with a few old photos from my archives and some descriptions from my own point of view at the same time to be as accurate as possible. The farm yards and buildings old thatch cottages have gone for ever, however on the bright side there are several thriving business in the village population 200+ we have two public houses.

The Crown Inn very old on the Beesby road, also The Turks Head on the Mablethorpe Road both have history. There is post Office and general store run by Mr T Pratt. There is a fishing lake Oham Lakes, The Willows Caravan Park at the Mablethorpe end of the village and Holidays chalets. Also on Mablethorpe road there is a filling station and Garage on chapel hill, and on main road Fern Lea garden Centre Nursery.

We had two mills in Maltby. The only one now is a stump with a fibre glass top on it known as the Old Mill, there was a post mill down mill lane gone long ago. There is the Parish Council using the village hall for its meetings. The local district council is East Lindsey DC.

We have four green lanes plus school lane, Occupation lane Hodgtoft Lane Mill Lane and Fen Lane all give access to agricultural land and two have footpaths, Earls bridge is on the Mablethorpe road the village now has Gas Sewage Electric and Water there was a time when we had none.

The 12th Century Church is now closed and services are held at the nearby village of Beesby although the grave yard is still open.

The Methodist Chapel is no longer used as a place of worship but is now the village hall.

The other chapel was the Baptist which has been converted into a house it is the penultimate building on the Alford road.
