Your Views and Opinions of Mablethorpe 2007 - 2002!

When my Husband retired last year we sold our large house in Sheffield and bought a nice little bungalow here in Mablethorpe. We have been so pleased with the friendliness of the people here and have fitted in really well. There always seems to be something going on.
Shirley from Mablethorpe (Monday, October 08, 2007)

Nice to see all the positive comments on this site, I like many of you have many happy childhood memories of this charming seaside resort, although many changes have been made the sea front promenade with it's little beach chalets still remain relatively unchanged, I remember the queens park paddling pool with the stepping stones, the water tower (anyone know what happened to that?) the funfair had a big wheel and a wooden helter skelter back in the 60s/70s and can anyone remember the inflatable yellow elephant from the 1980s on Quebec Rd or what happened to it?
A face lift for the high street may be long overdue but for me Mablethorpe will always be the place for family beach holidays and speaking from experience I can recommend it.
Jane from Nottinghamshire (Sunday, October 07, 2007)

Congratulations to everyone involved in the Bathing Beauties Festival, it was thoroughly enjoyed by myself, my wife & young daughter!! This is the sort of thing the town needs, I hope it's repeated next year, perhaps with a music festival too!!
John, Karen & Bryony from Nottingham (Monday, September 24, 2007)

mablethorpe , great place ,been going for hols and day trips for years and years. luv it. Tourist board and local councilors need to get more leicestershire coach companies to up there trips as they are becoming as rare as hens teeth these last 4 to 5 years. Also an idea could mablethrpes bed and breakfasts and local coach company get together and do some sort of package deal holiday to enable us who want to visit both accomadation and travel as one.
Russ from leicester (Friday, September 21, 2007)

I used to have a day trip to Mablethorpe every year, years ago, with my gran - fantastic! A coach load of grannies and kids from Forest Town - raffle on the bus, bingo on the seafront! I've never seen grannies run so fast off a coach to get the chalets booked! I'm really looking forward to coming over from Sheffield on Saturday to see the beach hut designs and artworks, not to mention the fireworks! I'm sure it'll be enjoyed by everyone.
Cath fom Sheffield (Wednesday, September 19, 2007)

My husband and I have been bringing our grandaughter to Mablethorpe since she was three she is now 14 sadly we couldn.t come this year due to illness but we love it and so does my grandaughter. It has everything a child needs sun sea sand donkeys. Its the most calming holiday you could wish to have Roll on next year when we have another 3year old to bring for the total seaside holiday experience (this will also include the by then 15 year old). The illuminations are fabulous and enjoy the stars who put them on the ice creams are the cheapest in the country and we love the town and surrounding areas Huttoft, Louth, Alford, Skegness, everything.

What an informative website, well done, it is our first visit to Mablethorpe, and we are very impresed, we were due to go abroad but due to illness we had to cancel, we were amazed in how much we found to do, and especially suprized to see The Bulgarian State Circus in a small resort such as Mablethorpe, what a marvelous show, highly recomended, well done to the Town Council for arranging that one.
David from North Yorkshire (Tuesday, August 21, 2007)

Mablethorpe....just spent a day (5th aug.07) staying at the Coxwains Cabin guest house, very hospitable indeed.Thanks.It was with a nervous feeling as i ventured back after at least 40+ years sinse my last.what no Whiteheads camp, didnt see Woodbine cottage either. The most spectacular selling point has to be the Beach, were in the UK do you get such an uninterupted stretch of beach like that..amazing.my 5 yr old was in his element as his dad before him.You cant get away from the fact the town is "Tired" non the less still a magic from all those years ago...John, Lucy, James. thanks...
John from Plymouth (Tuesday, August 07, 2007)

Mablethorpe is a fantastic family place. My family and I have been coming there for 10yrs. We have now brought a static caravan there as we luv it so much.the people are friendly, beaches are great, and my 2 kids luv it. If possible we would love to live there. We recommend mabo to everyone we know.

Its is a lovely place and the people are so friendly.
Julie fom Dunfermline (Monday, July 16, 2007)

I used to live in Mabo, 1970-75. Loved it then, love it now. We come up every year,to stay with my Aunty Mary. It has been a big part of my life for many many years. This website is brilliant. Thankyou.
Trisha from Kent (Friday, July 13, 2007)

My Wife & I own a caravan on the Haven Site at Mablethorpe. We simply love the place that much that next year we are also relocating to live in the area. I agree that the town could do with a spruce up here & there but we still love it as it is.
The beach is just great for my daughter & i must say i agree with others when they say why go abroad for holidays when we have great places to go like this? I just cant wait til next year when we will sell Up & move from where we are now (the West Midlands) & move to the area. i just have to find a job thats all.
Andy from West Midlands (Wednesday, July 11, 2007)

I have been coming to mablethorpe pretty much since the day i was born, and i wouldn't change it for the world i love it,who needs to go abroad when you've got mablethorpe just 1 and a half hours drive away i look forward to my annual holiday every august then when it comes i dont want to leave because i know i've got another year to wait before i can come back again, and it beats skegness by miles! heres to mablethorpe the BEST seaside town in the world!!

Ive always had holidays in Mablethorpe. We used to stay at Denehurst when Chris and Jackie had it and we used to stay in the snooker players bus. I even lived in Mablethorpe for awhile, but had to move back to my home town and I miss my friends from Mabo and just everyone in general.

Lenny from Nottingham (Monday, June 04, 2007)

Well done DAVE FENTON and everybody who took part in the MARATHON,may it be a focus, that will inspire other people to do more!
Reading the comments that people, visiting MABLETHORPE have put forward,i am encouraged. There are facilities that need improvement, and a lot has been done, and things will continue change for the better.Considerable plans are afoot, the local authority is making changes, which should please many.
More local people and businesses should consider joining the TOURISM FORUM,and other groups. There may be money and expertise available to help promote their interests.
Mike de Berry from Mablethorpe Tourism Forum (Wednesday, January 10, 2007)

I have been visiting Mablethorpe since i was 2 with all the family-now i'm 32 married with 2 children & i still love the place!! my husband & i spent our huneymoon at the seaholme chalet park which is still as it was when i was growing up. What a fab place to be.
paula from nottingham (January 09, 2007)

I love Mablethorpe. I want to spend all of my holidays there. I would like to say hello to Jamie, Luke and Mark Ward if they will look in here.
Carolyn from Munich (Monday, December 18, 2006)

I would like to personally thanks Dave Fenton and the committee and all the marshals and everyone involved in the first Mablethorpe Marathon held yesterday 10 September.
The event appeared, from an outsiders view, to have been very well organised, well run and well attended.
I think for people to give up their valuable time to orgainse such events is great. The town, normally quietening down at this time of year, received a welcome boost of trade as the supporters and followers of the marathon came to town. Anything that boosts trade in the town should be praised.
Well done to everyone involved and especially to Dave and thanks for your efforts. I hope that you enjoy your two weeks off before starting work on the 2007 marathon !!
Regards, Michael Kheng, Kurnia Intertrade Ltd, Spanish City, High Stree, Mablethorpe (Tuesday, September 12, 2006)

The first mablethorpe marathon - what a success!!! A huge welldone to all the organisors, volunteers and runners. I am an experienced runner and did the half marathon and was even though the weather made it hard going - not something you can control obviously - it was great to be part of such a new event and one where everyone had worked so hard! Well done again to all, I think I heard just 5 people were the driving force?!! - I hope your event goes from strength to strength. From the people I spoke to in the scout hut after the race, I think the organisors already know what lessons they've learnt, e.g re the mile makers!!!!, but if they were to send q'aires or ask for feedback from all involved i think would be on the whole pleased with what they hear. Finally well done once again, see you next year. best wishes,
Paula from Liverpool (Monday, September 11, 2006)

G'Day from Australia.
I have worked in the UK for 3 years at different times over the past 5 years and will be returning in early 07. I have worked at Beesby in this time and stayed in Mablethorpe while there. This town is one of the most friendiest and nicest towns I have visited. I stay in a lovely B&B (50 Victoria Rd) and I can tell you my time there and enjoying a drink at Shampers is something I look forward to! Your town, in summer or winter is fantastic. People are kind, honest and friendly.
I hope though that you can fix up the footpaths down Victoria Rd, the entire length along the front of the shops needs to be made uniform and would be nice with some trees lining the road.
Looking forward to returning and catching up with great friends (Shaun aka Arkrite) at his shop.
Stuart from Coolaroo, Victoria, Australia (Saturday, September 09, 2006)

Well we have just come back from Mablethorpe today, there was just myself and wife and 2 little dogs.
I've got to say we were mega impressed with the beach, the best costal beach i've seen in this country.
We stayed at the Haven site and i must admitt after that there was not alot of other places you could stay after that.
There is plenty to do , and we were both impressed with the crazy Golf, but i thought that the main area were the shops were and the arcades were very shabby and could do with a face lift and i noticed lots of boy racers(i'm 36 and my wife is 33 years)razing around the streets with there big bore excusts in there Nova's and just to point out that were there was any bit of land someone would be there with a board charging £3.00 to park and then they would disappear at about 3pm, leaving you feeling like you had been ripped off as you thought somebody was keeping an eye on your motor.
But Mablethorpe also had plenty of +'s too, very friendly people, plenty to do, loads of places to eat.
Reasonable prices in the shops and in the cafes, dog friendly and a good place to take the kids for a week if the weather is good. We would go back in the future.
Jon from Chester (Friday, September 08, 2006)

Me and my family are relocating from Stoke-on-Trent to Mablethorpe hopefully next summer.
We love it and cant wait to move.
Sharon from Stoke-on-Trent (Thursday, September 07, 2006)

I have been coming to Mablethorpe since i was a little girl and enjoyed it so much even when my parents asked if we wanted to go anywhere else we said no.... mablethorpe can we go there :D i took my boyfriend and friend there last year and they were impressed by it, i loved showing them around too. I may be only 22 but i remember where everything is. Good work for alll the people who work hard for us holiday makers I'll be bringing my children here next.
Emma from Derbyshire (Sunday, September 03)

I used to come to Mablethorpe a great deal, but since you have decided to ( without consultation ) ban kite buggying and boarding i will take my money elsewhere. A few complaints just means you listen to the complainers in society . I am scared of Dogs and horses but see no reason to complain about them, its a big beach. As for useing the CON of a SSI how come horses , walkers boats do not disturb wildlife. I WILL NOT BE BACK until you decide that beaches are for ALL
Dean from Wiltshire (September 03, 2006)

I think that mablethorpe would be ace if it had a swimming pool! Also i found it was more a place for families and it would be great if there was more to do for couples. Loved Kai's bar though, and Indian flavour, both have excelent service.
Laura from Nottingham (Sunday, August 27, 2006)

i think mabo is exellent however they should give u tours of the life boat.

As a resident and being employed here in Mablethorpe I look forward to the comming months to see if the demise of this seaside town can be averted. To this end I have been advised my plan will be published in the Leader soon, so I will not repeat myself here. I draw you attention to the malee the correspondant wrote on this website with regard the promotion of Mablethorpe in the Midlands and her friends being unable to travel from there to here outside of the season. This is History repeating it self from 1964. The following is drawn from 'Locomtion papers No.162' 'crowds began to assemble at Mablethorpe Station a full hour before the 'death' of the Mablethorpe-Willoughby branch line. a Note on the notice board read "Death Notice, on 3rd October passed away, at 7.55 pm after long illness, the Mablethorpe-Willoughby British Railways branch line. Passed away - but not peacefully." chilling reminder folks, something has to change, the movement in the Midlands will be recieved with relish by men of action now resident in this area.
Paul from Mablethorpe (Friday, August 18, 2006)

Hi i would like to say a big THANK YOU to all the people in Mablethorpe who made our holiday! The place is beautifull and the people very pleasent the beach is fantastic and im sorry to hear about the kite flying im sure there could be a compromise wich will enable them to continue. Thanks to the chap on the little train you were brill with my little boy and he wants to come and visit you all again next year but the secret is we loved it that much we will be back later on in the year$An in door pool would be good and something for the teens so they dont have to pump the pocket money in to the bandits all the time.1000 times better than skeggi
vikki from derbyshire (Sunday, August 06, 2006)

why was the water tower knocked down? always knew you was nearly at mablethorpe because you could see it from a few miles away.been going to mable now for 34years since i was 2 week old in parents caravan on mermaid site.spanish city used to have a swimming pool did,nt it?
john from derby (Wednesday, August 02, 2006)

I think Mablethorpe is on the up and up, it is so nice to see more entertainment coming to Mablethorpe especially the Great Bulgarian State Circus on Quebec Rd, what a marvelous show, for an up and coming seaside resort.
Ivor from Billinghay (Sunday, July 23, 2006)

Do Haven pay to have the buses stopped at night to restrict people to their site? Limited taxi's and no late bus means Mablethorpe misses out and Haven gains, local council sort it out and it might make it worthwhile keeping seafront facilities open instead of keeping the majority of your tourists restricted to out of town.
Michael from Leicester (Saturday, July 08, 2006)

I've been many a time to Mablethorpe. Such a nice and bracing place, such a marvellous place to visit especially for families.
Sarah Louise from Rome, Italy (Monday, July 03, 2006)

I think that mablethorpe is a nice place to visit. I visit every year and i enjoy it every time.I go in the Arcades where i spend all my money and then i take a long walk on the beach which i enjoy a lot and plus then i can't spend any more money. Love Tasha

haley from doncaster (Tuesday, June 27, 2006)

If I have to be honest, if there was NO "Haven" site I think Mablethorpe would be a ghost town. It is a shame because I have spent many years staying up and down the east coast and I would rate the beach at Mablethorpe as one of the best. However a good beach doesnt make a good place, the town itself has loads of seaside tat style shops but non actually sell tat with Mablethorpe written on it, the whole point of the seaside tat is the name stamped on it. The cafes on the seasfront are traditional, serving quality seaside treats and I must say are nice and friendly. The "Haven" caravan park is full of hidden extras, look for a cheaper site somewhere along the coast, all the facilities on the site can be found elsewhere cheaper and free, example: crazy golf haven £2 for 9 holes, crazy golf seafront £1.20 for 19 holes and it has to be said that the seafront 19 hole course has a truely nice person serving and the course is clean and very good. My overall view is, it's a shame that Mablethorpe seems to need the Haven site but the Haven site needs Mablethorpe more, the site is very rundown and dirty in comparision to other cheaper site. Long Live the Clean Beach at Mablethorpe, the Crazy Golf and the Cafe's, get rid of the tat shops selling tat clothes and tat tools, what do you need with a new socket set on holiday, and also the pub which is no longer running needs something doing with it.......6 out 10 for week long holiday, 8 out of 10 for a day break and 10 out of 10 for the clean beach.
Jason from Derbyshire (Saturday, June 10, 2006)

As a child i went with my family to mablethorpe and sutton on sea every year for 9 years and they were the best times of my life, Now as an adult i shall be returning shortly to see how much it has changed in the 9 years i have been absent, mablethorpe is a beautiful and very family orientated resort.
Anna from Tamworth (Wednesday, June 07, 2006)

mablethorpe is a great seaside town for every age to enjoy. With clean beaches good shops to browse great choice of food and entertainment. I look forward to returning every year with my family
STEVEN from : CHORLEY LANCS (Monday, May 29, 2006)

We have come to Mablethorpe for the last 4 years for our holidays, we love it. We have 2 children who also have a great time in Mablethorpe on their hols, we usually stay on the haven site, but we spend our days on their lovley beach and wondering round the town. The funfair is always a hit with our kids too.
angela from northamptonshire (Monday, May 29, 2006)

remember going to mabelthorpe as a child every year for as long as i can remember loved it every time, haven`t been back for many years but will do soon, is the big wheel still by the stairs to the beach? i remember there was a ghost train also ahhh the memories are still fresh, glad to see via the site the donkeys and sandtrain are still going
stuart from milton keynes (Thursday, March 09, 2006)

We enjoyed our day trip to Mablethorpe very much. The beach was very impressive, if not beatiful. It was very clean, and very bracing. We had a good meal at Dave's Restaurant, which was excellent. Mablethorpe is a lot better than Skegness. It has more class, and appeals to the more discerning tourist.
G from Peterborough (Saturday, March 04, 2006)

What a smashing website. I have very many happy childhood memories of holidays in Mablethorpe during the 1960's and early 70's. I occasionally return to reminisce; there will always be a part of me that will stay in Mablethorpe for ever. Thank you.
John from Gloucester (Thursday, March 02, 2006)

My family lived in Mablethorpe from 1954 to 1956. I started school there and my memories are of great times and wonderful people. I didn't get a chance to thank the people that made such heart filled memories and Id like to do that now. Im sure the people are just as great now as they were then. I would love to come back for a visit. Thank You.

hi i'm a bit worried about the donkeys they seem to work very long hours during the hot summers and i've not seen any food put out for them during the day, i've seen that they do have water but it doesnt seem to get changed. have the donkey laws been put into place there yet? also can you tell me if there has been any child weight restrictions?
concerned animal lover (Tuesday, February 07, 2006)

Motor cyclists bring much trade to mablethorpe each year how about some secure parking and less hassle from traffic wardens when we all try to park together to keep our bikes [very expensive machines] safe been coming to your resort for twenty years great place lets keep it that way.
Phil from Derbyshire. (Sunday, January 15, 2006)

Mablethorpe is great, but won't be the same without the British Legion Club. Please don't let it close, come on people join up and save it. It's on Admiralty Road for those who haven't found it yet. A friendly place where all are welcome. Please help keep it open for all. Thanks. James from Liverpool (Friday, January 06, 2006)

i have been to Mablethorpe lots of times and still have not got bored of it.It has so much character, i wish i could move there.

Mablethorpe is the nicest place I've been on holiday. The people make you feel so welcome, it has lovely shops, i espically like 'The Original actory Shop' and all the fresh fidh comes from Grimsby, also a nice place. where i live is not a nearly as nice a place as Mablethorpe.
richard from st.albans (Thursday, November 03, 2005)

well i live in mablethorpe and the only thing good there is ME!!!! Lol. Only joking people. No really its ok to live in but the amount of money you go through is ridiculous as i am 16 years old and the only thing is the arcades and that. The jobs are ok and the food is good. The clubs and pubs are ok aswell. There are various shops. Its all good and you should come to mablethorpe!!!!!
Joanne from Mablethorpe (Monday, October 17, 2005)

i really had a great time when i came here on holiday i really enjoyed every minute of it the only problem is i miss it wen i got back to my home it felt really weird to be back at crap somercotes in Derbyshire. i did everything i could do to fit it in the holiday and i'll do anything to go back to Mablethorpe Chalet park. when i'm old enough i told my mother im moving there.
Natalie from Derbyshire (Friday, September 23, 2005)

We used to have lots of older and disabled friends from Derby visit us in Mablethorpe throughout the year. Now they are no longer able to come because, apart from school summer holidays, there is no direct transport, i.e. coaches that travel directly from Derby into Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea, all at a time when a second massive TV advertising campaign, all across the East Midlands, advertises wonderful Skegness, Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea! IT IS A JOKE! As usual it is only Skegness who reaps any benefit! WHEN are councillors, or anyone else for that matter, going to realise that Mablethorpe and Sutton do still exist, if only by the skin of their teeth, or is it true that they are now being blatantly sacrificed for the so-called Jewel in the Crown of Skegness.
Mrs J Martin (Thu 22/09/2005)

I love Mablethorpe I have been coming ever since i was two weeks old and haven't got bored of it yet. I stay in sutton on sea and often enjoy a nice walk into mablethorpe. I couldn't wish for anything better
Anon (Thursday, September 08, 2005)

I'm 16 and i ADORE Mablethorpe, it's the most friendliest and welcoming place i've EVER been to. I met so many outgoing people on the links avenue site that i was gutted to leave. My dad agreed about liking it so much that he bought a chalet and now me and my family are down there most of the time =D
SO 3 HUGE CHEERS 4 MABLETHORPE!!! (i've found my paradise =D)
Katie from Bradford (Wednesday, September 07, 2005)

Can I please just point out one very important thing out about the kiting / buggying problem at Mablethorpe!
Kiting has NOT been banned! It,s KITE BUGGYING that has been banned.
That is what the sign say,s anyway. This means that kite boarders and static kite flyers are NOT banned - or so it may seem! Who knows. English Nature are SO vauge with their wording of exactly what has been banned I doubt even they know 'what is actually going on'.
Personally, I think this is just English Nature covering their behinds in case there is an accident and not actually taking any steps to help with the plight of many people who are now left without a venue to buggy!
If anyone would like any further information about the plight of Mablethorpe and kite buggying then please feel free to take a look here: http://community.flexifoil.com/showthread.php?t=62083
This thread, on a very popular kiting forum, was created, not only for people to share their views on what has happened at mablethorpe but by a chap that saw mablethorpe as his second home and was devastated when the ban was imposed. I urge all that are affected by the ban to take a look. Thanks.
PS - Mablethorpe was a great kitesport venue!
Jim from Surfleet (Monday, August 29, 2005)

My wife and I come to Mablethorpe every year for the tap dance festival. We love the town and usually stay a few days longer before coming back to California. A pool and other things would be nice but please don't spoil the character of the town.
Ian in Los Angeles (Sat 27/08/2005)

just got back from a few days at chalet park, thinking of buying a chalet at the chalet park,i love the place but as a non driver i have to catch the train to skegness then endure the worst bus ride in the world the number 9 which seems to stop at every stop, when i finally got to mablethorpe i felt like michael palin! The return journey as ever was terrible, when will central trains listen to there customers.anyway sorry for moaning and it wont stop me coming back for more see you next year!
steven from beeston (Thursday, August 25, 2005)

I would love to give a winter home to a pair of donkeys but have no idea how to go about it! We live on a small holding near Newark in Nottinghamshire, have plenty of grazing, can provide excellent care and shelter - we just need some donkeys!
Any help you can give - such as a contact telephone number - would be GREATLY appreciated by me (and my two children!)
Many thanks in anticipation penny@imconsult.co.uk

sheffield people love mablethorpe, you need us to spend our money, again why no bus service surely local people would use it all year round. Come on put some go into mablethorpe.

Steven from Beeston (Thursday, July 14, 2005)

Well, we've just got home from our summer holiday at Woodthorpe and though the weather was grim, we enjoyed it all the same. I've always loved Mablethorpe from being a child, but you do need to do something to make the town more attractive to visitors. For instance all the "holiday shops" close far too early in the evening, and i for one enjoy looking around them later in the day, after all (weather permitting) yur visitors will be on the beach all day. A good idea would be to put ads for Mablethorpe on local radio and newspapers in surrounding counties (notts, yorks etc), and to promote Mablethorpe as a good centre for exploring Lincolnshire, ie you have a great beach (one of the best) and from her you can visit the beautiful wolds or places like Grimsby, Louth, Boston which are all within easy reach. Anyway i'll stop preaching now cos i enjoyed ut anyway wnd will be back!
Gary from Notts (Sunday, July 10, 2005)

We have been visiting for more than 20 years both before children and now with children and dog and we love it.We would like the sea to be warmer!and the wind not so brisk but the children don't care.We were disappointed that there was a swimming pool which lasted such a short time but with all the other amenities will keep on coming.
Alyn from Bedford (Tuesday, July 05, 2005)

We love the place so much we have purchased property here. Now we can enjoy Mablethorpe all the time.
Les from Mablethorpe (Friday, July 01, 2005)

We have a caravan at mabletorpe, and its been our holiday place for the past 6 years! the people are friendly and we wouldn't think of going anywhere else, in fact, in the next few years we are hoping to move to mablethorpe. Its also great that dogs are welcome in most shops, it makes such a nice change, and the littles touches such as bolws of water left for dogs, makes such a difference! Also, for anyone disabled, most places are easily accessible, and there are no hills in sight! (A big change from yorkshire!) Keep up the good work ducks! x
Natalie from Huddersfield (Tuesday, June 28, 2005)

my family have spent our happiest holidays in mablethorpe. fantastic, clean sands, enough to do but not too much if you understand what I mean! lovely beach side walk from Mablethorpe to Sutton which even our three year old can manage at a steady pace. we have not managed to book for this year and we are all very sad about this! only thing lacking is indoor swimmimg facilities - the outdoor paddling pools in Mablethorpe & Sutton are fun and clean, but obviously rather dependant on the weather.. VIVA MABLETHORPE !!

Paddy from Derby (Tuesday, June 14, 2005)

Ive lived in mabo for 11 years now and i feel that it is a great place for little children to grow up in and for the elderly people to retire in but for the teenagers its not so good because of further eduaction and also for some good work oppertunities! I feel that mablethorpe could improve by getting itself a good swimming pool (which is open all year round), and a college.

As a resident of Mablethorpe I am very dissapointed that the kite buggies are banned from the beaches. I look forward to watching the enthusiasts enjoying themselves and alays find them to be very friendly and considerate. As a small resort we need to encourage as many visitors as possible and we are not only turning away the flyers themselves but the people that look forward to watching. I think that if there has been problems then it should be regulated rather than banned.

I was planning to come to Mablethorpe and bring the family - however, with a kite buggying ban in place I will not be bothering. I'll take my family elsewhere. Your choice.
What I'd suggest is you insist on insurance through the British Kite Buggy club (£5M standard) and ban in peak periods.

My 4 year old twins were really looking forward to flying the kites that they had for their birthday last week but having read the earlier comments it looks like that won't be possible....shame really.

A friendship group of us, all families with young and teenage children, are visiting Mablethorpe this weekend for a long weekend. We have ALL enjoyed watching the kiting in the past and are very sad this will not be taking place in the future. We wondered, were the general public and kiters all consulted before this decision was made? Surely to work together to find a solution would be a positive approach.
It would seem that, due to this ban, Mablethorpe will be loosing a lot of 'out of season' business. Indeed, it would appear this colourful, skillful and interesting sport has not only attracted many participants but also a wider general public who love to watch.
Mablethorpe Council could capitalise on this. Perhaps make it a yearly event that will attract more general public and gain momentum. Who would benefit! The residents of Mablethorpe, the general public and the kiters ... oh, and Mablethorpe Council of course!
WHAT A WASTED OPPORTUNITY! WHAT A SHAME!

Hi, I’m presently living in Nottingham, but my family still lives in the area (As my father is teacher in the local school), for the last few years, when take the families dogs for a walk at north end I watched the kiting activity taking place in the area. At the start of last summer I was given the opportunity to try out kiting. After trying I just fell in love with kiting, got one and ended up spending most week ends at north end. It just make me sad that a peaceful and relaxing activity can banned with no real feed back about the reasons.
Dylan Marshall (Mon 18/04/2005)

Hello, Me and my family used to be regular visitors to Mablethorpe to take advantage of the beach to persue our sport of kite buggying. Sadly due to the ban that has been imposed we wont be returning. We only used to use the quietest bit of the beach and the only contact we had with the public was always good natured, they were usually fascinated by all the different types of kites and buggies. The money we spent on food and fuel out of season I am sure will be sadly missed by the local economy. I hope a solution can be found for all our sakes.
David (tuffty) Tough (Wed 13/04/2005)

As the local County Councillor I am very concerned that we appear to be turning away so many people who want to come to our town. If any of the disappointed people would like to get in touch then hopefully we can start to work out how to successfully accommodate their needs & integrate them with our other visitors.
I can be contacted by e-mail on cllrt.howard@lincolnshire.gov.uk or tonyhoward@tiscali.co.uk

Our kite club in the midlands has visited Mablethorpe many times each year, mostly out of the main summer season, spending money at bars, B&B's, and restaurants and takeaways. With the kite ban now in place on the north beach we'll be heading west instead of east from the Midlands to the Welsh coast so I'd estimate thats around £5,000 spent with local businesses that they won't be getting in future. Not alot in the grand scale of things but this is normally spent out of season when I'd imagine every penny counts.
Anon (Tue 12/04/2005)

I've been looking for some time for somewhere to take the family away for a holiday where i could sneak away fro some kiting and buggying and mablethorpe was top of the list until i found out about the ban on kitebuggy's on north beach, maybe i'll look again if the ban is lifted, look's like france will be getting my pennies this year.
Steve. (Tue 12/04/2005)

Hello, I am a very keen photographer and have visited Mablethorpe a number of times to photograph the kiters that use the beach. I would just like to say that having them on the beach attracts other people to the area, the wonderful colours of the kites and the skill of using the wind to move up and down the beach is wonderful to watch.
I was one of those people who would have just driven through the town but saw the kites and stopped to take some photographs. I then visited another seven times that first year, just to take photographs of them. You can see from the emails on here that your town will be loosing money from them but also with a ban on place, the town will be losing money from people like me and my photography club who come to your town just to watch them on the beach.
Granville, Derbyshire (Tue 12/04/2005)

My family and large group of friends have been visiting Mablethorpe twice a month and have enjoyed holidays there for several years. We visit to enjoy kitesports activities on the section of beach north of the Seal Sanctuary well away fromthe busy section of beach near the town. We always enjoyed staying/eating in the town, with some of friends and family having a round trip in excess of 200 miles to get there. Alas, none of us now are permitted to use this section of beach due to English Nature banning us all, so we do not visit anymore. We have always found the local people and visitors very friendly and enjoyed all that Mablethorpe has to offer visitors. How long before English Nature want to ban all activities off the beach, and kill the fun we have all enjoyed at this typically English seaside town??? We do miss Mablethorpe and hope we are permitted to use the beach again................
Nick & Vicky Abraham from Peterborough (Apr 11 2005)

I remembered Mablethorpe from holidays as a child so when I took up kite-buggying I remembered the long flat beaches and made a bee-line straight for it.
Since September 2002 I've been visiting this beach almost every weekend, staying at local B&B's, drinking in local bars and eating in local restaurants till almost the present day.
Sadly now, with the kiteing ban that has been imposed on the North beach, I'm forced to spend my weekends at some other sea-side town.
I would hope that maybe one day English Nature will see fit to lift their unfounded ban as this beach is one of the best parakarting locations on the East coast, but until that day, I'll be spending my money elsewhere.
Best regards, Nick from King's Lynn. (Mon 11/04/2005)

Hi, have to say you have a lovely town, was great for the family to look around or spend relaxing on the wonderful beach while I’m kite boarding. Unfortunately the powers that be have see fit to impose a ban, which now means there is no point for me or my family to go to Mablethope any more. Which I think is a shame, especially as the ban, as far as I can tell, has been put inplace for no real reason.
We always flew well away from the public and had respect fro other beach users, including the wild life.
Any way l hope Mablethope continues to thrive, just unfortunately with out me or my family.
Jon (Sun 10/04/2005)

Can I also add to my last e-mail that I am currently involved in parakart racing in the British Supercup events and we were seriously thinking of holding a race meeting on Mablethorpe beach in the future. This would have brought Mablethorpe over 200 people camping, accommodation and eating within the closed season. With the ban in effect this cannot now happen.
I feel Mablethorpe is loosing out greatly because of English Natures insistence of banning us from the beach.
Jim Burrill, Kiteaholic :0) (09/04/2005)

For the last three years I used to look forward to my weekend coming over to Mablethorpe beach, flying my kites and parakarting (buggying) along the North beach from the Seal Sanctuary car park to Theddlethorpe, along with a group of likeminded people from around the Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire regions. The perfect finish to our day was to sit in Mablethorpe town eating their fish and chips and having a drink. Since January this year English Nature have banned us from parakarting on this beach this now means we have had to find alternative beaches along the East coast i.e. Hunstanton, Cleethorpes, Brancaster BUT nothing beats Mablethorpe beach - it was perfect for what we needed to do. Unfortunately with English Natures ban on the beach this means that Mablethorpe will now lose our group being there throughout the year. I feel with pressure, English Nature may lift the ban if enough voices speak, it would be great if your backing on this matter could be sought.
As mentioned, Mablethorpe is by far the best beach on the East Coast for kite parakarting. Bundled with the fantastic shops, restaurants and general amenities that Mablethorpe does offer, we as a group will really miss coming there.
Kind regards, Jim Burrill, Kiteaholic :0) (09/04/2005)

I came to mablethorpe about 18 times in the last 12 months, each visit I have spent (including fuel) about £60-80.
Sadly I will be spending my money somewhere else this year due to the kiting ban recently enforced.
Skeggy and cleepthorpes win AGAIN.... another all year round visitor down the drain.
A real shame as I liked the town better than the other two mentioned... soon it will be just left to the boy racers.
Adam and Sam (Sat 09/04/2005)

Hi, Unfortunately due to some narrow mindedness of the council my wife and our family will not be coming back to Mablethorpe this year due to the restrictions imposed on kiting on the beach.
We have been coming for the past 7yrs as it's a beautiful area and i can kite on the beach, well used to, now i cant so unfortunately we'll be holidaying elsewhere this year.
Alan, Plymouth (Sat 09/04/2005)

I visited Mablethorpe several times last year along with my extended family (wife, kids, sister, parents, uncle etc) to participate in the kite-buggying activities North of the Seal Sanctuary. However, due to the kite buggy ban now imposed on this area, we have no further desire to visit. The beach North of Mablethorpe offers the best kite buggying on the Lincolnshire coast - such a shame that the authorities have overlooked the potential to exploit this.
Chris aka Pilgrimair in Boston (Sat 09/04/05)

I have regularly attended your town, spent money in your shops and enjoyed your fabulous beach with my family. As I am sure you are aware, kite flying has now been banned from the North beach. It is for this reason that myself and my family will not be coming this year. How sad that a marvellous venue has been taken from us for no reason and with no communication between parties concerned. What a shame.

Anon (Thu 10/03/2005)

I have lived here in sunny mablethorpe for over 10 years, all i can say about this town is that it is a wonderful place to live, but as with any town anywhere in the country we have our problems. many people that have commented here on this site say how much better the town would be with a swimming pool.......well i agree but for a different reason. Many of the kids here cant swim.......so for this reason more than any other we need a pool.
The "boy racer" culture that has appeared over the last few years needs sorting out.....the police seem to do little....the council do nothing....and it is the residents fo the town that suffer as a result. As for drugs.....i am from a large city originally.....drugs are everywhere......it is a sad statement of modern culture....all we can do is help the ones that want help.....
All in all.....i think that this lovely lincolnshire town is about the best place on earth to live.....and i will be here 'til the day i die
Steve in mablethorpe (Wed 09/03/2005)

I adore Mablethorpe. I have been coming ever since I was a child when my mum and dad used to bring me and my two older brothers to stay at Golden Sands. We used to love it then and I still love it now. The things we do may have changed but the main thing stays the same. The amazing beach! My husband and I have been to many places in the world but I have never found a beach that is cleaner, safer and more beautiful and if the sun is shining there is nowhere better!
Admittedly, we do go abroad a couple of times a year but we always pop across to Mabs at least once or twice a year too as there is nothing like the feeling I get when I walk up that ramp and see that stunning beach spreading out in front of me with all the donkeys waiting and the whippy ice creams. My whole family still visit and we still meet under the Helter Skelter slide. The Sand train, the Seal Sanctuary and the Fun Fair, all wonderful family days out.
I will never stop coming to Mablethorpe as some of the happiest memories of my life have been there and I am sure there will be many more to come! One day, I hope I will be able to bring children of my own and let Mablethorpe weave its magic for them like it has for me.
Thanks Mabs!!!

As I'm sure you know, there are a great deal of kite enthusiasts use the beach North of the Seal Sanctuary.
I have recently heard that there is now a ban being enforced. If this is the case you will sadly lose many visits per year of a great many kiters. We will find somewhere else to go, which is sad as Mablethorpe has good facilities and a good beach.
I wonder what the towns poeple and the council think of this ? Are they aware of the ban ?

Hi'
we came over to Mablethorpe last week. It was cold but a really nice day, you should encourage more people to come to Mablethorpe out of season, ok it's not as bustling as the summer, but your shops were open and even a couple of arcades.
We really had a good day and will be back again in the summer for our holidays.
Thanks, Gary (Fri 04/02/2005)

Hi, never been to Mablethorpe until about six years ago, first time I visited ran into a "pea souper" of a fog, had to be guided out of the town, on the second occasion about a week or so later, completely different scenario, hot glorious sunshine, glad the wife had accompanied me to deliver some furniture, had a good look around the town, and at the fantastic beaches, took the kids down soon after, all TEN of them, my kids loved it! The option was whether to buy a van in Mablethorpe or continue having holidays at home and abroad, the decision was that we should buy a van in Mablethorpe, owned my own van for the last five seasons, we go EVERY weekend from March untill October and all school holidays, my kids cant wait until the season starts, and that includes my second eldest daughter who is 21, plenty to keep the whole family occupied, highly recomended especially as I was not an East Coast fanatic (Prefered Blackpool to anywhere in the UK) my foster children also get a great holiday. Highly recomend staying at "HOLIVANS" kids bar and Large Screen TV, Adult Bar, Karaoke and Bingo, plenty of activity the whole year round, TRY IT !!

Hi, I love Mablethorpe & have been on holidays there many many times especially when I was a child in the 1970's.
Still go their for the day every year - I have some wonderful memories of times spent their.
I last went on 31 August, 2004 & witnessed the highest tide I had seen their in probably over 20 years - it was so spectacular!!
As a child we used to stay at a place named La Caseta, a bungalow situated opposite Trustville Holiday Camp, on the small road by the bakery.
We also stayed at a white painted cottage type house just outside Mablethorpe, owned at the time by a Mr & Mrs Smith, who lived close by and sold 'cooked chickens'.
We also stopped at 'Golden Sands' in 1975 - very hot (like 1976!) and the neighbouring holiday camp called 'Haven'.
I remember 'Sunshine Corner' and the beach cafe (no longer there!), further up the beach towards the dunes.
FInally, I remember 'RINGO' the donkey - he must have spent 25 or so years taking rides their.
He's long gone now, but I think another donkey has taken his name head piece.

After reading some of the negative comments in the previous messages I'm afraid I have to agree with many of them, drugs, lack of amenities, but Mablethorpe is still a great place to visit. NO SWIMMING POOL WHICH WEVE BEEN TRYING TO GET FOR YEARS. THERE IS NOTHING HERE FOR LOCALS, SO IF YOU R COMING HERE ON HOLIDAY THEN YES YOU WILL HAVE GREAT TIME, BUT PLEASE DONT THINK ABOUT MOVING HERE, MY PARENTS MOVED HERE AND BROUGHT US WITH THEM, THEY REGRET IT.

I have always liked Mablethorpe and have a caravan sited there, until last Wednesday when I received a parking ticket simply because my valid parking ticket fell of the windscreen face down. After appealing to the council and producing my valid ticket I was told I still had to pay the fine. I always obey parking regulations and am disgusted in the way I was treated in Mablethorpe. Needless to say I will now only return to re-site my caravan.

As an ex-pat in Algiers for the last 2 years, have always enjoyed returning back to Mablethorpe [I am originally from Lincoln] Its one of those places that I have visited many times over the years, and part of its attraction is its relative quiteness and remotenes compared to other seaside locations. It also has'nt changed a lot over the years which is what I particularly like. A great place for the family.

Lovely place but I do have a fear for pedestriations walking along the footpath on Quebec Road. There are so many young drivers that use this stretch of road like a race track that sooner or later one of them is going to lose control of there vehicle and plough straight into people walking to and from the town. I am afraid this is something waiting to happen. Hate to say it but Speed Camera's are the only solution to a problem that has been going on for years. I Wonder what the local council and police have to say on this subject ?

I like how its not to overcrowded ‘but it can be’ not always bumping into people like when you go to Skegvegas. All in all a great place to stay and visit.
R. Dee from Sheffield (Tuesday,April 13, 2004)

I have been visiting Mablethorpe all my life (if only for a day trip some years). I have so many happy memories of playing on the beach as a child, carefree days! I'm older now and have all the usual worries associated with that, but just having a single thoght about Mablethorpe can make me feel better. I urge all visitors to travel around the whole area if you can, Grimsby (for shopping), Cleethorpes, Louth, Boston, & of course Skeggie! I'll be back this year, staying just inland at Woodthorpe Hall nr Alford, it's so peaceful. Here's looking forward to it! Cheers.

Living in the Capital and spending time working and travelling in Europe aand Asia, i can whole heartedly proclaim that of all the diverse cultures and places I have seen - THERE IS NON AS INTERESTING AS MABLETHORPE.
The people are truely remarable, and the town is a credit to them. I shall return to the golden beaches and sensation nightlife at easter this year. bravo Mable.

Good clean sands and having got two dogs well situated 'doggy' area to let the dogs enjoy the holiday too. Your website is very easily navigated. thank you.
Ann from Derbyshire (Monday, February 2, 2004)

I go to mablethorpe 5 times a year. My family have a caraven on holivans, which we stay in. I think it is a wonderfull place beacuse of the lovely plesant beach, and entertaiment through out the town. The local pubs are friendly and you can always have a good time where ever you are. Its a great place to have a fully fun packed holiday, or just to relax its great fun for all the family.
Lucie from Birmingham (January 2, 2004)

Mary from London (Sunday, October 26, 2003)

mablethorpe is a great place in both summer and winter with not only the rides and things in summer but the motor bike sand racing in winter which keeps this seaside town running where is other sea side towns most of there shops close for winter my family and i love to come to this resort both in the summer and also in the winter for my family to race. its the 33rd year of mablethorpe sandracing and with the help of mablethorpe local people and shops we may be able to carry on the fun and bring more people to the town in winter. With the cost of insurance going up this club is starting to struggle help from mablethorpe would be very much appreciated in forms of donations. thanks.

Me and my wife have had holidays in mablethorpe for the past 29 years and we think it is a very nice place in fact we would like to set up home there. The beach is in our opinion 1 of the best in britain but we would like to see more rides like there is at Ingoldmells.
Ken from Barnsley (2003 September 23)

We are considering moving to the area and visited Mablethorpe last Saturday. Some of the side street "attractions" are not quite our cup of tea but the beach is just lovely. It was a very sunny day but there was a very strong wind blowing which we have been assured "Always blows like this....." Please tell me they are wrong.
Mary from Kidderminster (2003 September 02)

Took our Grandchildren to Mablethorpe last week, as there are no hills and we are both disabled. What a super place to visit, the children were well impressed with the clean beaches and the sea. We had a lovely meal near the front to, but had to rush back to the car park when we realised our 3 hours was up. Too late, we had been given a parking ticket for £50.. Three hours is not enough time to see everything in Mablethorpe, and all the car parks have the same limit. Do you not want tourists to come and spend a day and lots of money in your town? We won't be back till this changes. Sorry.

Laura (2003 may 31)

Am about to revisit Mablethorpe with one of my grown up daughters this month (May 2003) after an absence of 10 years. I haven't been there since we left after selling out last caravan on the Haven Site, having first bought a van on the site when it was owned by Mr Henshaw. We had vans on there for 12 years and my children grew up thinking of Mablethorpe as their second home...they knew it better than where we live and it was so much safer for them too! Mablethorpe was great for families then. With kids in tow how could you not love the people, the town, the prices...just about everything. I just hope nothing's changed and that this forthcoming 'trip' down memory late doesn't spoil my daughter's childhood memories of the place. But provided it hasn't changed too much I don't suppose it will.
By the way, this site is a real credit to it's creators. Definitely one of the most informative, usable and creative I have ever seen. Good luck to it's continuing success.....
Marilyn from Milton Keynes (2003 May 10)

I have been going to Mablethorpe on holiday since i was 3years old ,in july this year i will be having my honeymoon there!!!.My 2 children aged 8 & 3 think it's a fab place to be!! (especially "the dunes" - the entertainment for them is 100%)
Paula (2003 May 05)

Having been to both Mablethorpe and Skegness, we can say with no fear of cotradiction that MABLETHORPE wins hands down !!! The people are friendly, there are lots of little shops plus the best fish and chips on the east coast, we are coming again next week and hope eventually to live there....see you soon.
Kim and Trevor (2003 April 20)

We are Mablethorpe fans! Holiday in Mablethorpe most years.
Previously we have used accommodation in north Mablethorpe. However since we are getting older we would like to holiday more central Mablethorpe, with access to most town shops/Beach etc. We have a King Charles Cavelier spaniel dog, so we are looking for accommodation that also allows pets by arrangement. We often come with our married children & kids, so it would be usefull to know if the guest house has enough accomodation.
Only just found this internet site - very usefull!!!
Dennis (2003 April 16)

I have lived just down the coast from Mabo' as we call it affectionately for 10 years now. My parents came to stay and had a ride on the famous sand train, my brother got wet falling off a motorbike on the beach sand racing! We often come to the Seaview carpark and fly our kites at the weekend - the sand is clean, the people are lovely and the wind is clean and bracing.
Who needs all the bright lights of Blackpool, or the sweaty, suntan lotion stinking stretches of spanish beaches? Mablethorpe may be a little old-fashioned, but keep it that way, we love it!!
Alison (2003 March 18)
