Our Purpose

The aim of the Beach Hut Owners Association is to encourage the regular use of the beach huts along this stretch of the coast and maintain and preserve them for the enjoyment of future generations.

Members pay £25 per year and have their Beach Huts checked weekly. Any damage found is reported to the associations’ chair, who will then notify the owner of the Beach Hut. If the damage is serious, it will also be reported to the Police.

Membership of the Beach Hut Owners Association usually entitles you to a discount on Hut Insurance.

Unless you are able to check your Hut on a regular basis, we recommend that you join the Association.

When our members walk along the promenades, they often see damage to huts not belonging to our members, i.e. damaged roof felt etc. As we have no contact details, we cannot notify the owners. If these problems are not dealt with immediately, the wind and rain can soon cause much greater problems, leading to expensive repairs.

Small Business Rates

If you receive a questionnaire from ELDC about small business rate relief for your hut, fill it in and send it back. The huts are covered under non-domestic rates, which now come under small business rates.

Identifying your Hut

Please identify your Beach Hut. Ensure your hut is clearly numbered. Looking for a numbered hut on a promenade is easy; looking for names is a nightmare. Keep the names by all means, but please also clearly show the number.

It is helpful if numbers are on the back of the Huts as well as the front. Some Huts can be seen clearly from both the back and the front. In some places, it is easier to walk behind a row of Huts to check for vandalism.

No member of the BHOA can take any responsibility if damage is mistakenly reported due to the lack of a number/letter. Watsons Hardware on Sutton High Street sells 3 inch black or white numbers. The best method to ensure correct identification of your Hut is giving the number and name of the promenade in either Sutton on Sea or Mablethorpe.

Vandalism

The Police continue to make it one of their priorities to do regular patrols along the sea front in the evenings, looking out for any individuals hanging around the Beach Huts.

Please report any vandalism to the Police and get an incident number. The Neighbourhood Police Team are doing their best to catch those responsible.
