An Example From Chapel St Leonards

An elderly couple living in Chapel St Leonards were both in receipt of the State Pension and both had small private pensions.
They owned their own home and had a bit of money in the bank so assumed they were not entitled to claim any extra help.

Unfortunately, one of them developed a long-term health condition so I helped him claim Attendance Allowance as he needed help with his personal care.
This increased their income by £85.60 per week.

Because there was now a disabled person in the household, and his wife was a carer for him, I assisted with a claim for Pension Credit. Pension Credit guarantee was granted at £15.00 per week.

As Pension Credit guarantee was in payment, the full amount of council tax was paid for them. Another weekly increase of £21.

When Pension Credit guarantee is in payment you also get additional help with cold weather payments, help with glasses and teeth and can even help get a new boiler or insulation free of charge.

The total increased income for this couple who thought they were not entitled to anything was £121.60 per week – over £6,300 a year.
